Anote privacy policy

Last updated: September 13, 2026

Anote helps people leave contextual feedback on websites and web apps. This policy explains what we collect, why we collect it, and how the Chrome extension uses browser permissions.

Information we collect

We collect account information such as your name, email address, avatar, sign-in method, and workspace membership. If you create or join a project, we store project names, invitations, roles, connected integrations, and basic project settings.

When you use Anote to review a page, we store the feedback you create: annotations, replies, mentions, tags, selected element context, page URL, page title, element selector, viewport metadata, screenshots or visual previews when you choose to capture them, and any files or content you intentionally attach.

We also collect product usage events, such as signup, onboarding answers, project creation, extension connection, annotation creation, invitations, and agent connection milestones. We use bounded campaign fields and referring domains to understand how people find Anote.

Chrome extension data and permissions

The Anote extension runs only to provide its review and annotation features. It uses browser permissions to place the Anote toolbar on pages you choose to review, identify selected page elements, attach pins, capture context for your notes, sync feedback with your Anote project, and show review controls in the Chrome side panel.

The extension may store local settings, draft state, project connection details, and session state in Chrome storage so it can reopen in the correct review context. Optional host access is requested when you choose to review a website outside Anote-owned domains.

Anote does not execute remotely hosted code in the extension. The extension JavaScript and assets are bundled in the submitted package. Network requests are used to communicate with Anote services and approved realtime providers for product functionality.

What we do not collect

We do not intentionally collect health information, financial or payment information, passwords, authentication cookies, or government identification numbers through the extension. You should not include sensitive secrets in annotations, comments, screenshots, or agent handoff prompts.

How we use information

We use information to provide Anote, authenticate users, connect projects, display annotations and discussions, send invitations and mention notifications, support realtime collaboration, prepare agent-ready context when requested, improve product reliability, and protect Anote from abuse.

We do not sell personal information. We do not use extension data for advertising. We do not transfer user data except as needed to provide Anote, comply with the law, protect security, or support a business transfer such as a merger or acquisition.

Service providers and integrations

Anote uses service providers for hosting, databases, authentication, analytics, realtime collaboration, and email delivery. If you connect an integration such as GitHub, Vercel, Framer, Codex, Claude Code, or another agent workflow, Anote uses the integration only to provide the connected feature you enabled.

Your choices

You can choose what projects to create, which websites to review, who to invite, and whether to connect optional integrations. You can unsubscribe from non-essential mention emails using the link in those emails. To request access, correction, export, or deletion of your account data, contact us.

Security and retention

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect Anote data. We keep account, project, annotation, and audit data for as long as needed to provide the service, resolve disputes, meet legal obligations, and maintain security.
